LaFaun Johnson
May 2, 1932 – February 28, 2022
LaFaun Johnson (Lettie LaFaun Nelson Taylor Johnson) passed peacefully into her Father in Heaven’s arms Monday morning Feb. 28, 2022. She was born in the home of her grandmother Stocks in Lewiston, Utah, on May 2, 1932. She is the daughter of James Wilbur Nelson and Luella Stocks Nelson.
As a child and youth she lived in Lewiston, Utah; Preston, Idaho; White Bluffs, Washington and Buena, Washington. She attended Kittitas High School and graduated from Walla Walla High School. She also graduated from beauty school. She married Don Taylor and they had six children, all surviving her: D. Craig Taylor (Liz) of South Jordan, Utah; Margie King (Robert) of McCammon, Idaho; Jana Jones of Woodville, Wisconsin; Trina Boyce Larsen (Gerald) of Moses Lake, Washington; Steve Taylor (Julie) of Omak, Washington and Michael Taylor of Odessa, Washington. She later married Derral Johnson of Moses Lake, Washington. He had two daughters: Judy Johnson Wallace (Len) of Utah, and Nancy Johnson Prentice (Neal) of Jerome, Idaho. She also brought two girls, Linda and Billie Sue with her to the U.S. when she came back from Guam with her own two little ones. She cared for them until their mother regained her health. She has 31 grandchildren and 76 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Thad Nelson and his wife Lois and Sharon Nelson and his wife Irwina, her sister Susan Nelson, and both of her husbands. Also, her daughter Nancy passed away in 2019. She has an angel granddaughter Avery Taylor and two angel great-granddaughters Angela and Nevaeh Taylor.
One of her greatest joys was in seeing the growth and accomplishments of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She got a degree in education while raising six children as a single mother. She taught special education in the Moses Lake schools for 26 years.
She loved flowers and bunnies. She loved beautifying her home and yard and was not afraid to swing a sledgehammer at a cinder block wall or plant many, many trees. She was an expert quilter and loved making beautiful quilts for others. She was a member of the Basin Piece-makers Quilting Guild.
She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved her Father in Heaven and her Savior, Jesus Christ. She served in many organizations in the church, and in many callings in the Relief Society including as Relief Society president. She served in the Seattle, Washington Temple for three years and when the Columbia River Temple was built, she served there for many years.
A special thank you to her daughter Trina Boyce Larsen, her son Michael Taylor, her granddaughter Sarah Boyce and others for their loving care of our mother for the last many years.
