Nominations open for state diversity award

OLYMPIA — Nominations are open through Aug. 25 for the Governor’s Employer awards, sponsored by the Governor’s Committee on Disability Issues and Employment.

The awards recognize employers throughout Washington who work to recruit, hire and advance workers with disabilities, according to a press release from the Washington Department of Employment Security.

The Direct Support Professional Award goes to a job coach or developer who has helped advance the employment of workers with disabilities. The Governor’s Trophy in Memory of Carolyn Blair Brown recognizes a person who has developed or influenced programs, services and legislation to support people with disabilities. The Toby Olson Lifetime Achievement Award is given to a person who has worked over a lifetime to address inequities faced by disabled people, and who can demonstrate their work has had an impact.
