OLYMPIA – House Minority Leader J. T. Wilcox, R-Pierce County, recently appointed Vickey Melcher to a 4-year term on the Washington State Charter School Commission.

Melcher previously served on the Moses Lake School District’s Board of Directors. She holds a bachelor's degree in special education and a master's in counseling psychology. She has also served in directing MLSD’s special education department and spent several years as a classroom instructor, according to a press release from the Commission. She is a lifelong resident of Eastern Washington and a graduate of Odessa High School.

The Commission is an independent state agency that was formed with the mission of creating a rigorous and comprehensive proposal process for qualified non-profits who wish to open a charter public school. It is comprised of a seven-person staff, including an Executive Director, which focuses on the implementation of each charter public school’s authorized contract.
