QUINCY — Quincy city officials will advertise for bids on a project to rebuild a section of Eighth Avenue SE, also known as Bob Jacques Way. Quincy City Council members approved a request to advertise for bids at the council’s regular meeting Tuesday.

No price estimate was attached to the request.

The project will rebuild the section of the street from A Street SE to F Street SE (Highway 28), adjacent to the athletic fields at Quincy Middle School. Quincy City Engineer Ariel Belino said during the meeting that the old road surface will be torn up and replaced. Sidewalks, curbs and gutters will be added, and the stormwater drainage system will be upgraded.

Once the project contract is awarded, the work must be completed in 50 days, according to the bid documents.

The project follows the completion of an A Street SE project that provided major upgrades from Columbia Way to Division Street E, including water and sewer improvements, a repaved street, sidewalks and gutters. Council members approved substantial completion of the A Street project Tuesday.

Belino said in an earlier interview that city officials are working to upgrade streets as money is available.
