Suspects in custody after high-speed pursuit near Royal City
ROYAL CITY — Three suspects are in custody following a high-speed pursuit Thursday afternoon near Royal City.
At approximately 12:45 p.m. Thursday, Grant County Sheriff’s deputies spotted a vehicle near Royal City that matched the description of one involved in an incident earlier in the day, in which suspects had reportedly been stealing backpacks from a bus and fired a shot at one of the workers, GCSO spokesman Kyle Foreman said. Deputies, assisted by Washington State Patrol and Royal City police, followed the suspects’ vehicle on back roads around Royal City and onto state Route 26 at speeds topping 100 miles an hour. In the vicinity of O’Brien Road and SR-26, an officer exectured a maneuver that forced the suspect vehicle off the road and into a ditch.
The suspects were arrested without further incident and taken to Grant County Jail, Foreman said. Inside the suspect vehicle were a variety of batteries from motor vehicles. Anybody whose vehicle or farm equipment is missing a battery is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at 509-762-1160 so that the suspects can be charged appropriately, Foreman said.
The suspects' names were not available as of press time.
