Ephrata Schools looking for new board member
EPHRATA — In a press release on July 26, the Ephrata School District announced that they were seeking candidates for an open position on the Ephrata School Board.
“Ephrata Schools have been fortunate in both the quality and the longevity of those that choose to serve on the school board,” said Tim Payne, Superintendent, in the release. “Ephrata has a longstanding history of being led by a collaborative and committed school board that works in unison with district staff in fulfilling our commitment to kids and learning.”
The release states the vacancy comes following the resignation of Director Alain Black, who stepped down to accept the varsity girls basketball head coaching position at Ephrata High School.
Applications will be accepted until Aug. 19 at 4 p.m. for candidates who meet the following criteria:
- Must be a United States citizen
- Must be a qualified voter resident.
- Must live within the boundaries of Director District No. 1.
The individual selected by the Ephrata School Board will serve the remainder of Black’s term, which expires in December 2023.
The release states, to apply, candidates must provide a biographical sketch or resume and a statement describing why they wish to serve on the board. Neither the sketch/resume nor the statement should exceed one page typed. Additional information, the online application and maps of Director District No. 1 can be found at https://www.ephrataschools.org/district/school-board or are available at the District Office.
The Board will review applications on Aug. 22 during a work session, the release states. Interviews will be held on Sept. 27, followed by the administration of the successful candidate’s oath of office at the beginning of the Oct. 24 meeting.
