Grant Co. seeks Board of Equalization candidates
EPHRATA — The Grant County Board of Equalization is in need of two more members, the county commissioners announced recently in a press release. The successful candidates will serve a three-year term as alternate members.
The Board of Equalization members are responsible for hearing appeals including, but not limited to determinations of real and personal property, exemption denials, and current use determinations, the release said. In addition, they are responsible for assuring that all real and personal property entered on the county’s assessment roll is at true and fair market value. At a minimum, the board holds day-long hearings seven to ten times per year. Board members are compensated at a daily rate plus mileage.
One of the alternate members must reside in District No. 2, the Moses Lake-Warden area, and one in District No. 3, which includes the Quincy, George, Royal City, Mattawa and Desert Aire areas.
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, able to attend scheduled hearings and able to attend state-mandated training within one year of appointment. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of appraisal methods, experience in real estate sales and marketing, banking, farming and general knowledge of Grant County. Members may not hold an elected office or be employed by an elected official, the release said.
Volunteer applications will be accepted until the positions are filled. Applications can be found on the Grant County website at https://bit.ly/3PlynhW.
