QUINCY — Jessica Diaz was sworn in as the newest Quincy Police Department officer during the regular Quincy City Council meeting Tuesday. Diaz was sworn in by QPD Chief Keith Siebert before an audience of family, friends and fellow officers.

Diaz said she was impressed by the department when she interviewed for the job and likes the town.

“I just really love the community of Quincy,” she said.

Siebert said Diaz demonstrated leadership skills and her work ethic while at the Basic Law Enforcement Academy.

“When she went to the academy she was elected the vice president of her class by her peers,” Siebert said.

Diaz studied extra on her own time, he said, including about 40 hours of firearms training.

Currently, QPD has two officers in the academy that will bring the department to full strength upon graduation, Siebert said.
