Three injured in alleged DUI-caused collision
Three people were injured Monday night in an alleged driving under the influence-caused collision on state Route 28 at Martin Road in Ephrata, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Andrew M. Baty, 22, of Quincy, and a 17-year-old Ephrata boy were driving just before 10:10 p.m. in separate cars west on state Route 28, just west of Martin Road.
Baty, in a purple 1997 Honda Civic, attempted an illegal pass in a no passing zone and made an aggressive lane change to avoid oncoming traffic, the WSP stated. The passenger side of the Honda struck the left front of a green 1999 Honda Civic, driven by the 17-year-old, and both cars left the road to the left. The purple Civic rolled and came to rest on its top, while the green Civic struck a rock wall and came to rest on its wheels.
Baty and the 17-year-old were taken to Columbia Basin Hospital for their injuries.
Baty’s passenger, Jennifer M. Reynolds, 42, of an unprovided city, was taken to Samaritan Hospital for her injuries.
Baty was later taken to the Grant County Jail for investigation of vehicular assault and driving under the influence.
All three wore seat belts and both cars were taken by the WSP for evidence.
