Soap Lake girls fall to Waterville/Mansfield
SOAP LAKE – The Soap Lake High School girls basketball team took a tough loss from Waterville/Mansfield High School on Friday, while the boys game was canceled.
The Soap Lake Lady Eagles tried, but just could not seem to get a handle on Waterville/Mansfield. The first quarter saw only four points by Soap Lake while Waterville/Mansfield got 15.
The second quarter did not go any better for the Lady Eagles, as they didn’t make a single basket. Again, Waterville/Mansfield scored a little over a dozen points, solidifying its lead.
The third quarter saw one basket from Soap Lake’s Serenity Curtis, but Waterville/Mansfield was not holding back. Waterville/Mansfield had its highest scoring quarter during the third quarter, with 21 points.
Going into the fourth quarter with a sizable lead of 43 points, Waterville/Mansfield slowed down, but did not stop its scoring, adding another nine points to its total. Soap Lake didn’t give up and scored its highest scoring quarter, with six points.
In the end, the Lady Eagles lost 12-58.
“It’s a roller coaster ride, honestly,” Soap Lake head coach Leonard Lundgren said. “There’s times that we look really good… and then fall back.”
Lundgren explained the team is a very young and inexperienced team, but he is proud of the progress it is making.
He said he told the girls to learn something from every game, to find something to take away.
The Lady Eagles take on Wilson Creek High School on Thursday.
