Reginald Eugene Whitehurst Jr.

| January 19, 2022 1:00 AM

“Reg” or “Reggie”

December 18, 1941 – January 13, 2022

His father was Reginald Eugene Whitehurst Sr. and his mother was Valeria Lee Rhodes Whitehurst. He was born in Norfolk, Virginia, but called South Mills, North Carolina home. His father was in the Coast Guard so they moved around a bit but ended up settling in South Mills.

He is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart Gloria “Gae” Whitehurst and their seven daughters Gloria, Mary, Lisa, Melinda, Bonnie, Paula and Brandi, as well as his sisters Decilia Dozier and Patricia Markham. His legacy lives on through his 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Reggie served honorably in the U.S. Air Force between 1961 and 1965. He owned and operated a donut shop in Renton, Washington, called Chuck’s Donuts. He retired to Othello, Washington, and loved the view off his back porch. He loved to joke around and tell stories about his adventures and all the funny and crazy things he had seen and done for fun. He was the kind of man who would give the shirt off his back to make sure someone else was taken care of and was always putting others first. He valued hard work, innovation and leaving things better than you found them. He loved tending to his garden, working around the house and traveling around with his wife and dog when he was able to.

Reggie’s funeral will be Saturday, Jan. 22, 2022, at 11 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 357 Christensen Road, Othello, Washington.

There will be a viewing for 45 minutes before the funeral. Then we will go to the cemetery located at 900 Apple Ave. NE, Royal City, Washington, where Reggie will receive military honors and be laid to rest.
