ODESSA — The Moses Lake Christian Academy/Covenant Christian School (MLCA/CCS) fell to Odessa High School, 37-51, in a basketball game Wednesday in Odessa.

The MLCA/CCS Lady Lions came out with a strong start and scored the first basket of the game within the first minute. Odessa returned the favor with a three-pointer about a minute later. As the quarter went on, it was neck and neck, 5-5 and then 7-7, before Odessa pulled ahead to end the first quarter ahead, 15-9.

Bit by bit, Odessa got past MLCA/CCS and built its lead to 10 points at halftime, 28-18.

The Lady Lions pushed on but just could not seem to make up for lost time, ending the third quarter with 27 points, while Odessa had 40.

Throughout the game, just when it seemed like the Lady Lions were making progress, Odessa would squash that with a basket.

Despite their best efforts, MLCA/CCS could not keep up with Odessa.

MLCA/CCS junior Kali Kast was the high scorer for the Lady Lions with 17 points. Odessa junior Ashlyn Neilsen had the game high of 26 points.

“Odessa played a great game. They executed well on offense and out-hustled us on defense,” MLCA/CCS head coach Josh Kast said. “Our girls played hard tonight, but we made too many mistakes tonight to give us a chance to win.”
