MLCA/CCS boys take early lead, slide past Odessa
ODESSA — The Moses Lake Christian Academy/Covenant Christian School (MLCA/CCS) boys basketball team took a close game, 60-51, with Odessa High School on Wednesday in Odessa.
“It wasn’t the way we wanted to win, but we haven’t played in three weeks, so I was very happy to see us come out and take and keep the lead all game. We battled and found a way to win. Everyone contributed,” MLCA/CCS head coach Emerson Ferguson said.
In the first quarter, MLCA/CCS scored triple the points that Odessa was able to. With a big lead early, the Lions kept the Tigers at bay for the rest of the game.
Despite the big lead from the beginning, Odessa was not going down without a fight. Odessa gained some ground in the second quarter but couldn’t keep the momentum in the third quarter.
Going into the fourth quarter, the Lions had a lead of 53 to 36. All hope was not lost though for Odessa, and they managed to score 15 points. MLCA/CCS was not done either and scored seven points, solidifying their victory.
The highest scorers were MLCA/CCS senior Pierre Boorman and Odessa senior Daeton Deife, both with 14 points. MLCA/CCS junior Jeff Boorman, senior Jacob Robertson and Odessa sophomore Jacob Scrupps scored 13 points each.
