QUINCY — The Quincy Recreation Department announced that they will be holding a winter cornhole league starting Jan. 19.

Quincy Recreation Director Russ Harrington said he decided to do a winter league since the first-time summer league went so well.

“It was a lot of fun, even just hanging out,” Harrington said, adding he did not participate in the games.

Harrington said they are looking for eight to 12 teams of two, and team members must be 13 years old or older. The league will meet on Wednesday nights from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Mountain View Elementary gym.

The first five weeks of games will be a random draw and the final week will be a tournament of champions. Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams.

Each game goes to 21 points, and winning two out of three games takes the match. Each game takes about 30 minutes, Harrington said.

The Quincy Recreation Department has four cornhole board sets and the cost to join the winter league is $40 per team.

Harrington said that because the league will be meeting inside a school facility, all attendees must follow school district COVID-19 policies. This means spectators need to wear masks but participating athletes do not, he explained.
