OTHELLO — The East Columbia Basin Irrigation District will begin filling the East Low Canal on Wednesday, March 23, announcing a formal start to the 2022 irrigation season.

The ECBID said it expected to begin water deliveries to customers along the East Low Canal on March 28, while customers in Block 49 taking water from the Potholes East Canal can expect water to become available on March 21, the district said in a press release.

However, irrigation deliveries are “dependent on the demand in the individual lateral” irrigation systems, according to ECBID Secretary Manager Craig Simpson. Pump plants will begin operation when water orders from individual irrigators are sufficient, the press release said. Irrigators with questions about availability should contact their local watermaster or ditchrider for information and schedules.
