24 Columbia Basin wrestlers place at state

TACOMA — Out of the nearly 40 wrestlers from the Columbia Basin that went to the WIAA Mat Classic XXXIII tournament at the Tacoma Dome over the weekend, 24 walked away with top-eight placements in their weight classes.

Of the 24 who placed, four took first place. Those four were sophomore Ashley Dayana Naranjo of Moses Lake High School, senior Shannon Workinger of Quincy High School, junior Bianca Johnson of Moses Lake High School and junior Alondra Morales of Royal High School.

For team scores, Quincy High School took 13th, Royal High School took 24th and Wahluke High School took 29th in the 1A category. Warden High School took 22nd in the 1B/2B category. Othello High School took 3rd and Ephrata High School tied for 25th in the 2A category.

Moses Lake High School took 6th, Royal High School took 9th, Ephrata High School took 16th and Othello High School took 17th in the girls category.
