MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake Christian Academy/Covenant Christian School (MLCA/CCS) girls basketball team won a league title this season.

The girls team overtook Waterville/Mansfield High School in the final seconds of the game to take the league title on Sunday.

MLCA/CCS head coach Josh Kast said it all came to the final seconds of the game, when MLCA/CCS was down by two and junior Allison Stanley attempted a three-pointer. She did not make the basket and was fouled in the process. Kast said Stanley made all three free throws, resulting in MLCA/CCS’s victory over Waterville/Mansfield by one point.

“I’m really proud of how she handled the situation,” Kast said of Stanley making the baskets despite the pressure.

MLCA/CCS senior Kali Kast led the team with 16 points.

Josh Kast said his team has grown in the last year and learned how to fight through things, which was shown during the game. He explained coming back after Christmas break was especially hard with multiple injuries.

The girls were undefeated in the league, 14-0 and were automatically seeded to the second round of the district tournament. They will host the second round at 7:30 Friday against Entiat High School. The winner of that game will play on Feb. 17 against the winner of the game between Pateros and Waterville/Mansfield high schools, which is also being played on Friday. The top two teams in the league will move on to the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) State 1B tournament March 2-5 at the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena.
