Three MLHS bowlers qualify at districts, one moves to state championship
MOSES LAKE – The Moses Lake High School girls bowling team had a busy couple of weeks with districts and state championship games.
The team had three girls qualify for districts: junior Sarah Devoll, senior Kylee Pardee and senior Sarah Carpenter.
Only one of the three qualified for the state championship=s, which was held at Narrows Plaza Bowl in University Place Feb. 3-5. Carpenter finished 21st in a field of 50 bowlers at the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) state 4A girls bowling tournament.
Head coach Dan Stevenson said Carpenter had a great time and made many new friends while at the state competition. He also mentioned she received a sportsmanship award, which was not surprising to her coaches and teammates.
“Sarah received a sportsmanship award, something her coaches and teammates know was well deserved,” said Stevenson.
Stevenson said Carpenter was on the team for a short time this year, but made a big impact. He noted she exemplified how athletes should act; she encouraged and respected all athletes, while having fun and making friends along the way.
