Frank Karas

Frankie Harry Karas was born on Oct. 6, 1940, to Haralompos Constantinos Karles (Harry Karas Sr.) and Helen Brown in Ephrata, Washington. Frank grew up in the Soap Lake area with his four brothers. Frank had a full life centered around serving others. Awarded best attendance for not missing a day of school from kindergarten to 12th grade, he always showed a commitment to excellence, a strong work ethic and an unbeatable drive.

Frank served in the United States Army as a military policeman stationed in Germany. Early in his career, Frank was a deputy sheriff in Chelan County and volunteered for the Soap Lake Fire Department. Frank discovered a passion for fence building and sales. He worked hard and ultimately opened his own company, North Central Washington Fence. Frank ran his business for over 25 years.

Frank was an active member of the Lions Club, serving in nearly every position possible. Frank was the district governor for Multiple District 19 - Lions Clubs International in 2014. Frank served over Lions Clubs in Washington, British Columbia, and Northern Idaho. He was involved in many community service projects. He was known to quote former President John F Kennedy’s famous statement, “Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.” Frank lived out those words through his selfless service and his motto for Lions “We serve, we have fun.” Frank was instrumental in chartering the Moses Lake Leo Club alongside his granddaughter, Brittany Karas.

Frank’s love for his family shown through daily. He is well known in the community for his service and generosity. Frank never failed to come up with something to say to make those around him smile and laugh. He always brightened everyone’s day around him. Frank was a fan of Westerns, particularly John Wayne, and collected his memorabilia. Frank always loved his dogs, especially his beloved dog Stormy whom he had for over 20 years.

Frank passed away peacefully on Jan. 26, 2022, in Moses Lake. Frank is survived by his daughter Kathy Karas; his sons Jason, Patrick, Rick and John Karas; his grandchildren Brittany Karas, Kayla Baeza and Richard (Richie) Karas; his great-grandchildren Addysen, Carsen and Jaelynn; and many dear friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Harry, Gus, Tom and John Karas.
