Quincy boys basketball team adds two wins
The Quincy High School boys basketball team was on the road, taking two more victories last week.
On Wednesday, the Jacks took on Manson High School and came out on top, 78-63.
The Jacks had the jump on Manson, creating a 10-point lead at the end of the first quarter. Manson was able to not only catch up, but get ahead of the Jacks by the end of the second quarter.
Going into the second half, Quincy was behind by two, despite its 10-point lead it had at the end of the first quarter. Quincy is a team that knows how to bounce back; however, and scored 22 points in the third quarter to regain the lead. The third quarter ended with Quincy at 57, Manson at 48.
The fourth quarter saw Quincy expand its lead from nine points to 15. Quincy took the game 78-63.
QHS senior TreyVaughn Bierlink had 27 points to lead the Jacks, 15 of which were three-pointers. Sophomore Aidan Bews followed with 17 points.
On Friday, the Jacks took down Omak High School, 82-67.
The Jacks came out to score 28 points in the first quarter alone. Omak scored half of that with 14. Quincy slowed down the pace in the second quarter, but kept enough momentum to keep its lead over Omak. By halftime, the Jacks had a 44-28 lead.
In the third quarter, Quincy picked up the pace to score 23 points compared to 16 in the previous quarter.
Omak had its highest scoring quarter of the game with 24 points in the fourth quarter. While Quincy only scored 15, Omak’s surge in points wasn’t enough to overtake the Jacks and the Jacks took the game 82-67.
The Jacks overall record is 17-3 and 10-1 in the Caribou Trail League. The team’s last regular season game will be Thursday against Cashmere High School at Quincy. QHS beat Cashmere twice this season already, 65-44 on Dec. 16, and 63-57 on Jan. 14.
