MLHS wrestling teams battle Eisenhower
MOSES LAKE – The Moses Lake wrestling teams went up against Eisenhower High School on Thursday.
For the girls team, only one wrestler competed, as the rest of EHS’s female wrestlers were not able to travel due to COVID-19. Moses Lake High School junior Brianna Martinez wrestled against Emma Caudle. Martinez took the match, with a pin at 4:44.
The boys team also battled, but MLHS head coach Jaime Garza said the team knew going into the match it was going to be close and his wrestlers were a young team, but they made some uncharacteristic mistakes.
“We just need to show some more fight, to be honest with you. I don’t care if we lose; what I’m concerned about is if we lack some of the urgency, if we lack some of the fight, if we lack grit,” said Garza.
The final team scores were MLHS 25, EHS 46.
The results of the varsity wrestlers were:
• 106-pound MLHS freshman Dylan Martinez received a forfeit.
• 113-pound MLHS sophomore Weston Stowe lost by decision to Eric Aguilar, 6-2.
• In the 120-pound weight class, MLHS forfeited to Francisco Sanchez.
• 126-pound MLHS freshman Jessie Humpherys lost by fall to Greyson Sarten.
