Darrell Moss

Darrell Fay Moss, 92, died in Moses Lake, Washington, on Oct. 30, 2021, after a six-month battle with cancer. Darrell was born Feb. 25, 1929, in San Francisco, California.

He’s survived by daughters Shawn and Laura, sons Matthew and Jason, eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife Sharon Moss, son Michael Moss, grandson Jessiah Simon, his mother Gladys Croy, stepfather Claude Croy Jr., father Rex Moss, stepmother Amanda Moss and brother Ronald Moss.

Darrell was an accountant for Nabisco in Seattle, pitching in city league baseball until he was drafted at 22 into the U.S. Air Force. After serving overseas, Darrell met future wife Sharon, an Ephrata High School graduate, and learned grading and excavating in Moses Lake while she attended secretarial school in Spokane. As a family man, Darrell went back into accounting in the construction industry, then residential development, project management and sales. Darrell earned multiple college degrees over three decades, attending Syracuse University in New York, Chico State in California, the University of Kansas and Saint Martin’s College (now University) in Washington. He was a lifelong athlete who ran the Boston Marathon in his 40s, competed in the Senior Olympic Games into his 80s and still walked 2 miles a day into his 90s. He and Sharon enjoyed their last retirement years in Moses Lake. Darrell is remembered for his strong hugs and always giving words of encouragement.

Final arrangements were made at Pioneer Memorial Gardens. No services were held.
