Othello’s Annalee Coronado reaches 1,000 career points

OTHELLO — Othello senior Annalee Coronado went to the free throw line late in the Huskies’ game with Warden with 999 points in her high school basketball career. The shot went up, the ball went in and Coronado joined Othello’s 1,000 points club.

“It feels like a dream,” she said after the game. “I thought maybe I could do it when I was in seventh, eighth grade. It’s just been a dream forever. So it feels amazing.”

Coronado said she knew she was getting close. On the court she worked to make sure it didn’t affect her team’s chances, she said.

“So really all I was thinking about was getting the ball to my teammates and focusing on winning the game instead of getting 1,000 points,” she said.

Off the court it added a little pressure. Her coach – and dad – Adolfo Coronado said he noticed a difference once she hit the 1,000-point milestone.

“I noticed that right afterwards, the next shot went right in,” he said.
