Fun times at Othello's Christmas Miracle on Main Street

OTHELLO — It was cold, but not cold enough to keep people from watching the parade, playing in the beanbag tournament, attending the children’s carnival and taking part in all the activities in the Christmas Miracle on Main Street in Othello Saturday.

The parade and other events are sponsored by the Othello Holiday Committee.

Tania Morelos, one of the organizers, said that while it was cold, it was still fun.

“I would say this was probably the best parade in the four years we’ve done it. People really got into it,” she said.

The parade drew 22 entries, she said. Farm tractors, fire trucks and school buses, among others, were all decked out in Christmas lights. People decorated trailers with holiday scenes. The Santa that rode the Othello Police Department float had a blue suit, and the Adams County Sheriff’s Office added inflatable decorations to their offroad vehicles.

The snow that fell earlier in the week moved the beanbag tournament indoors to the Othello FourSquare Church, but the children’s carnival, a fundraiser for the Othello High School class of 2024, went on in front of Othello City Hall.

“They had a tent, all decorated like Whoville,” Morelos said. “We called it the Whoville carnival.”

Children had the chance to play games and win prizes.

Pastors from Othello churches read selections from the Christmas story before the lighting of the community Christmas tree. The Othello Foursquare choir sang “Silent Night” before the tree’s light came on.

“We hope we can do that again,” she said.
