George collision victims identified
GEORGE - The seven people involved in the collision just east of George Tuesday morning have been identified by the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.
The collision occurred just before 7 a.m. along Adams Road South between Baseline Road and South Frontage Road West when a Toyota Corolla carrying two people lost control, rotating while sliding into the opposite lane, and into the path of a 2014 Nissan pickup truck carrying five occupants. Icy road conditions are believed to have contributed to the loss of control by the Corolla.
The Toyota Corolla was driven by Rodrigo Zepeda Medina, 21, with his brother Daniel Zepeda Medina, 27, a passenger in the vehicle. Both men, from Quincy, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The Nissan was driven by Nicolas Tafoya Diaz, 57, of Othello. Passengers included María Lugo Vargas, 44, Arturo Medina Solorio, 52, Alejandro Alcala Corona, 50, all of Othello and Camilo Luna Cano, 32, whose resident city could not be confirmed. All five occupants of the truck were injured and transported to various area hospitals.
The initial report by law enforcement stated that there were only three occupants in the truck but it was later clarified that there were five occupants but two had not been confirmed with law enforcement on which local hospital they had been taken to.
