OLYMPIA — Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson announced Tuesday he is suing a Federal Way gun retailer for allegedly illegally selling high-capacity gun magazines in violation of state law and is asking a King County Superior Court judge to issue an injunction preventing Federal Way Discount Guns from selling any more high-capacity magazines, according to a press release.

The lawsuit follows an enforcement investigation of 25 gun retailers statewide to confirm that the law, which bans the sale of magazines with a capacity of more than 10 rounds, was being complied with, according to the press release. Investigators were successful at purchasing the magazines at two retailers, including Federal Way Discount Guns.

According to the press release, the other retailer was not named because the investigation into the purchase was still ongoing.

“Our sweep confirmed that the overwhelming number of gun retailers in Washington are doing the right thing and complying with the law,” Ferguson said in the press release. “We will continue to proactively enforce this law, and take action against anyone who illegally sells high-capacity magazines.”

In the lawsuit, Ferguson said the gun store and its owner, Mohammed Reza Baghai, violated the state’s consumer protection laws. If found guilty, the store faces a fine of $7,500 for every time it offered to sell a high-capacity magazine and another $7,500 for every illegal sale.
