SEATTLE – University of Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. announced on social media Sunday that he will be returning for the 2023 season with the Huskies. Penix finished the 2022 season as the nation’s leading passer with 4,354 yards.

2023 will be Penix’s sixth collegiate season. He spent his first four seasons at Indiana University before transferring to Washington after the 2021 season.

“First of all, I would like to thank God for blessing me with the opportunity to play this sport that I have been in love with all of my life,” Penix said in an Instagram post Sunday night. “I would like to thank all of Husky Nation and the University of Washington for believing in me and supporting me and my teammates in this wonderful journey. I am so blessed for the relationships that I have built here and the amazing moments that we went through this season that will last a lifetime.”

Penix went on to thank his coaches for their faith in him and the opportunity to play for UW.

Penix completed 330 of 500 pass attempts, averaged 8.7 yards per attempt and threw 29 touchdowns to seven interceptions. His 4,354 yards this season were more than his previous four seasons at Indiana combined, at 4,197.
