August 4, 1926 – November 26, 2022

Our beloved mother Jane Rossie Palmer died at home in Moses Lake on Saturday, Nov. 26. She was born Aug. 4, 1926, in Highland Park, Michigan to Bill and Bernice (Sanders) Hauter.

Jane grew up in the suburbs of Detroit with her much-loved brother Bill. She graduated in 1944 from Lincoln High School in Ferndale and went immediately to work for the FBI in Detroit.

The FBI years were filled with parties, epic road trips, and laughter as the gals in the “Clerk’s Clique” became lifelong friends.

Jane worked with the FBI until she married LaVon Palmer Dec. 15, 1956, in Royal Oak, Michigan. They traveled to Moses Lake and got to work making a new home. Jane loved Moses Lake; she especially enjoyed fishing with her friends.

Jane also volunteered for Camp Fire. She started as a leader in 1965 with the intention of serving one year. That year stretched to 45 years of service at the local and regional levels. She directed a camporee for the fifth- and sixth-grade clubs in Moses Lake from 1973 to 2003. She received most of the Camp Fire volunteer service awards, including the Luther Halsey Gulick Award in 1983, the pinnacle recognition award for extraordinary lifetime service.

Jane had a cadre of close friends, from the FBI, the Crestmont neighborhood where she raised her kids, fishing, and Camp Fire. We know who you are and thank you for enriching her life. And ours.

Mom is survived by her four children Beth, Susan, Bill, and Brian and their partners; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. We are eternally grateful for Mom’s love, support and guidance through our lives. We were broken when Dad died unexpectedly. She picked us up and held us together.

Mom’s brother Bill used to say that dessert was best served first. Mom agreed wholeheartedly. We will lift a cookie in her memory sometime in June of 2023 when we can gather family and friends from, literally, across the world.

Those wishing to acknowledge Mom’s memory are encouraged to donate to North Central Washington Camp Fire.
