Shirley Gunnell Chambers

Shirley Gunnell Chambers passed away at her home surrounded by her family on Aug. 27, 2022. Shirley was born on Sept. 26, 1925, in Howell, Box Elder, Utah to Lorenzo B. Gunnell and Lila Fern Hendricks. She grew up in Howell on her father’s farm. After high school Shirley met and married Myron A. Chambers on Aug. 16, 1944, in the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Myron and Shirley moved to Othello, Washington in 1952. They farmed south of Othello on Atkinson Road. She was employed by Western Farmers in Othello for 23 years. After Western Farmers closed, she went to work for Cenex at the Bruce office doing secretarial work. They sold their farm in 1985 and moved to Meadowlark Lane by the golf course in Othello. Shirley moved to Moses Lake in 2015 to be with her daughter Dian.

Shirley was an active member in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all her life. She enjoyed working with the youth of the church in various organizations. Shirley and Myron became workers in the Seattle Temple after their retirement for eight years and two years in the Columbia River Temple.

Shirley is survived by her children Dian Merkley of Moses Lake, Doug (Michelle) Chambers of St. George, Utah and Charlotte (Stan) Fuhriman of Moses Lake. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Myron, daughter Judy, son Michael, son-in-law Ray Leo Merkley, grandson Christopher Merkley and great grandson, Kimball Fuhriman. She has 16 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.

Services are under the auspices of Kayser’s Chapel of Memories. Shirley’s funeral will be on Friday, Sept.2, 2022 at 10 a.m. with a meet-and-greet from 9 till 9:45 a.m. at the Nelson Road Chapel located at 1849 Nelson Road NE, Moses Lake, Washington. Burial will take place at Lindquist Cemetery in Ogden, Utah.
