August 15, 1934 – July 3, 2022

Betty E. Dawson, 86, loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2022, in Othello, Washington with family at her bedside.

Betty was born Aug. 15, 1934, in Phoenix, Arizona to Herbert and Ruby Swofford.

As a child Betty started taking piano lessons. It was something she really enjoyed and was able to make use of by playing the piano at church and also at school to accompany the school choir. Playing the piano was something she continued to enjoy throughout adulthood. Also, while growing up she loved riding horses and in high school she became a majorette for the marching band. She was quite good at twirling a baton.

Eventually, Betty met and married Loman Atkin and they had a daughter named Debbie. After nine years of marriage they went their separate ways.

Several years later she met and married Ben Lozano and they had a daughter named Lorie. While married to Ben, Betty and her two daughters had the opportunity to live in Taiwan for 1 1/2 years due to Ben’s job. The memories of that experience were something that Betty enjoyed the rest of her life. After a few years of marriage they also went their separate ways.

In 1973 Betty married John Dawson and they were married 41 years until his death in 2014. With their marriage their families were blended and Betty became the stepmother to John’s five children: Cecelia, Ken, Steve, Raymond and Alicia.

Betty and John enjoyed going to casinos, playing bingo and attending Dixieland music festivals. They also loved traveling and were able to visit many states as well as Canada and Mexico.

She loved her family and friends so much and enjoyed whenever company would come visit or there was some kind of family get-together.

Betty was preceded in death by her father Herbert Swofford, mother Ruby Swofford, husband John Dawson, grandson Sean Donovan, and stepdaughter Alicia Bishop.

She is survived by her daughters Debbie (Steve) Evans and Lorie Folkins, and step-children Cecelia Brown, Ken Dawson, Steve Dawson, and Raymond Dawson; her sister Shirley (Bing) Zink; brothers Herbert Swofford and Donald (Carol) Swofford; grandchildren Tyler and Allie Folkins, several step-grandchildren, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at a later date.
