W. Broadway accident snarls Moses Lake traffic
MOSES LAKE — A two-car accident at the intersection of W. Broadway and Dogwood in Downton Moses Lake left one person injured and snarled traffic for more than an hour, according to the Moses Lake Police Department.
At around 11:45 a.m., MLPD Sgt. Juan Rodriguez said the accident happened when the driver of an eastbound Dodge Avenger swerved into the parking lane and hit a Dodge Durango parked along the eastbound side of W. Broadway, forcing the Durango to hit and topple a streetlight.
“There were no injuries, though one person was transported as a precaution,” Rodriguez said.
Rodriguez said the driver and both passengers in the Avenger were all underage. The driver attempted to flee the scene, Rodriguez said, but was quickly apprehended.
The MLPD sergeant said the likely cause of the accident was “improper lane usage,” though an investigation is continuing and charges may be filed against the driver.
Eastbound traffic was detoured down Third Avenue for roughly an hour as workers from the City of Moses Lake Public Works Department and Moses Lake Fire Department cleaned up wreckage and righted the downed lamppost, Rodriguez said.
The driver and passengers in the first vehicle are not being identified here because they are under the age of 18.
