QUINCY — The B Street Block Party committee and the Quincy Valley Chamber of Commerce are soliciting food vendors, entertainers, breweries and distilleries, as well as groups interested in doing activities like face painting, for a summer-long series of events on B Street.

B Street events begin June 16, when Microsoft Quincy MWH Data Center will host Business After Hours. The first B Street block party, held last summer, was presented with support from Microsoft, which provided money to hire the company that helped plan and present it.

Chamber director Cari Mathews said the initial block party on B Street, held on a Friday night and a Saturday, drew more than 1,000 people each day.

“People liked it and we just want to keep doing it,” Mathews said.

The Dru Gimlin 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament is scheduled for June 18, and Mathews said B Street will have vendors to go along with it. A Friday night block party is scheduled for July 15.

Another Friday night party is scheduled for Sept. 9 as the kickoff for Farmer-Consumer Awareness Day, the annual town celebration. A harvest festival is scheduled for Oct. 14, and Mathews said groups that want to sponsor games or other activities are encouraged to apply for that.

B Street will be part of the annual downtown Trick or Treat on Oct. 31 to wrap up the season.

Mathews said Chamber officers and committee members want to encourage people to come downtown, and the Chamber hopes to expand events beyond B Street eventually.
