Michael (Mike) Stevens

Truck driving legend Michael Wallace Stevens, aka “Big Mike,” passed away at 79 years of age Monday, March 28, 2022, in Richland, Wash., after a rough bout with transverse myelitis and kidney decline.

Mike is survived by his children Bill Stevens, Todd Stevens and Sean Stevens; many grandchildren; and siblings David Stevens, Richard Stevens, Coleen (née Stevens) and Linda (née Stevens).

Mike is preceded in death by his parents Virgil Stevens and Gladys Stevens (née Burkepile), wife Yevone Stevens (née Proctor), infant son Michael Stevens and daughter Kim (née Stevens).

Mike was born Dec. 29, 1942, at Coulee Dam Community Hospital, Mason City, Wash. Mike grew up and lived most of his life in the Columbia Basin area.

Mike graduated from Moses Lake Senior High School in 1961. Mike attended trade school and earned a degree from Columbia Basin Junior College in 1965. Mike went to school during the day and worked nights for the railroad. Mike served his career as a heavy equipment mechanic, diesel mechanic, automotive mechanic, welder, equipment operator, long haul truck driver and much more. Mike worked all over the USA including Alaska.

Mike loved working, staying busy, tinkering, camping and fishing.

No funeral service is scheduled. He will be taken back to the “old country” among family and friends.
