Soap Lake takes tough loss to Pateros
SOAP LAKE - The Soap Lake High School softball team took a tough loss Friday night in a league match against Pateros High School. The Lady Eagles fell 22-4.
So far this season, Soap Lake is 0-5 taking losses from Ephrata, Oroville and now Pateros.
Despite their lack of wins, head coach Alicia Hasenoehrl said one major victory this year is that her team has had no eligibility issues in regards to their grades and that the girls have gotten along better than any group she has had before. Hasenoehrl has coached Soap Lake softball for five years.
“They’re probably the hardest workers I’ve ever had. They actually listen, they're very coachable,” said Hasenoehrl.
Hasenoehrl also said her athletes have had to overcome several challenges related to lack of experience, shifting positions and student availability.
“I wouldn’t have it any other way though,” Hasenoehrl said
Friday was Soap Lake High School senior Claudia Bedolla’s last game due to a health issue but she said she has loved playing softball for Soap Lake.
“I've loved it. It has taught me to like something (sports-related),” Bedolla said.
She said she never really liked sports when she was younger but she has enjoyed being a pitcher on the team. She’s played varsity since her freshman year.
“It's a young team but they're good. They just need to be aggressive,” Bedolla said.
