Semi driver dies in rollover accident
DOUGLAS COUNTY — A truck driver died in a rollover accident in northern Douglas County Monday, according to a press release from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
At about 11:36 a.m. deputies responded to a report that a semi was lying on its top on McNeil Canyon Road and that the semi’s brakes were on fire. According to DCSO, Daniel E. Heberer, 57, of Spokane, had been driving downhill and failed to negotiate a curve due to excessive speed. The truck rolled and came to a rest on its top. Heberer, the truck’s sole occupant, was found dead at the scene.
The truck, which was hauling a non-hazardous material, was removed for inspection by the Washington State Patrol to determine if equipment failure was a contributing factor in the collision.
