Jonathan Rice

On March 25, 2022, at 82 years of age, Elbert Jonathan Rice passed away peacefully in his sleep in Moses Lake, Wash. Jon is survived by his wife Hattie Ann, sons Jonathan Thomas, Jeffery Allan (Roberta) and Russell Cecil (Jeremi), numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Jon attended Pasco High School where he met his bride, Hattie Ann. They were wed on July 22, 1960, and were blessed with over 61 years together. Jon attended junior college in Pasco, Wash., where he studied auto mechanics. While Jon worked as an auto mechanic for two years, he studied carpentry. In 1961, Jon joined the United Brotherhood of Carpentry and worked as an instructor at the Columbia Basin Job Corps. Then in 1971, Jon accepted a transfer to the Curlew/Republic-area Job Corp center, where he continued his career before having to take a medical retirement in 1992. In 2006, Jon and Ann moved from Republic to Moses Lake, where Jon spent the remainder of his life.

Jon had a unique and witty sense of humor, and was a very loving, giving person. Jon enjoyed helping others and anything outdoors. Woodworking was a favorite pastime of his. He will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father and friend.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 8 at Peninsula Community Church, 2413 W. Texas St., Moses Lake, Washington.
