September 15, 1953 — April 14, 2020

Cheri Louise Schumann Coleman Taylor passed away April 14, 2020. Sadly, due to the pandemic the family has been waiting to hold a memorial in her honor until now.

Cheri was born in Ballard on Sept. 15, 1953, to Emil and Adelaide Schumann of Vancouver, Canada. Her family relocated to Kennewick, where she graduated from Kennewick High School. She was very proud to be a Kennewick Lion and a member of the class of 1971. Cheri loved working and hanging out with friends at her parents’ restaurant, Emil’s Chuckwagon in downtown Kennewick.

While attending KHS, she met and fell in love with classmate Bruce Coleman. They married soon after high school and welcomed a daughter, Chandra, in May of 1972. They soon moved to Seattle to begin their life but unfortunately parted ways in 1977.

Cheri relocated with her daughter to Moses Lake, where she met her future love and husband of 36 years, Martin Taylor. During their years in Moses Lake, they welcomed two children, Connor and Alexa, to join their family along with Chandra and Parker.

Cheri worked at the Hallmark Inn as the head waitress and dining room manager for close to 17 years. She loved serving people and always said that it was like hosting a party every night. She had an amazing smile and found so much joy in helping people

The Taylor family relocated to Mill Creek in 1995. Living closer to her Schumann family, their lives were filled with parties and celebrations for the next 16 years. Cheri continued her career in fine dining and catering in the Kirkland area for many years making friends along the way.

She watched her children, nieces and nephews grow into adults and cherished every moment of it. She had an enchantment to her and was no doubt the queen of cool to those close to her. Cheri’s love and support didn’t stop with her family; she welcomed many other children into her life and home when they needed support, a home-cooked meal, a hug and a place to stay.

In 2011, Cheri and Marty moved to Yakima for the next chapter of their lives, making many new friends there as well. She loved daily walks in her Franklin Park neighborhood with her beloved dog Jett. She also enjoyed spending time hosting pool parties and neighborhood block parties.

Cheri had a smile that lite up a room. She was welcoming to all and difficult to forget when you met her. She was one of a kind.

Cheri struggled with numerous health issues at the end of her life but always loved her family beyond words.

Cheri finally succumbed to heart disease on April 14, 2020, at the beginning of the pandemic.

Cheri is survived by her brother Art Schumann (Audrey); her children Chandra Coleman Lotz (Mel), Parker Taylor (Julia), Connor Taylor and Alexa Taylor (Paul); her husband Martin Taylor; her grandchildren Mason Lotz, Mallory Lotz Mandeville, Maddison Lotz, Evelyn Taylor, Emory Taylor and Rowan Taylor; and her great-grandchildren Brooklyn Mandeville and Logan Mandeville.

Sadly, Cheri is preceded in death by her parents Emil and Adelaide Schumann and her sisters Faye Schumann Potter and Jayne Schumann Suhr Becraft; the world is a lesser place without them.

A celebration of life service will be held at the Moses Lake Golf Club at 1373 Road F.2 NE, Moses Lake, WA, on Saturday, April 9, 2022, from 12 to 3 p.m. All are welcome to come and share their memories of Cheri. Please contact Marty Taylor at 509-989-6684 if you wish to attend.
