Daniel E Mansfield was born on Nov. 7, 1946, in El Reno, Oklahoma, to parents Louis and Mary Ann Mansfield. He grew up in Buena Vista, Colorado, then his family moved to Alamosa, Colorado, where he worked in the family gas station and graduated from Alamosa High School.
Daniel enlisted in the U.S. Army right after graduation and completed his basic training at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He served our country during the Vietnam War from Feb. 25, 1966, to Feb. 24, 1972. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Vietnam Service Medal. After receiving an honorable discharge, Dan moved to Cle Elum, Washington, to be with his parents.
Dan met the love of his life, Carol, in September of 1975. After a short courtship, they were married on November 28, 1975, becoming an instant family with Carol’s daughter, Kim. After a couple of years, they added a son, Steven, and a daughter, Kristin. He enjoyed spending time with his family camping, fishing, going to the ocean and to the mountains to pick blueberries and mushrooms and attending church. Dan’s faith in the Lord helped him through many ups and downs during his life. He was supported by a strong church family where he enjoyed their fellowship. Dan supported his family working in steel fabrication until he retired in August 1993. During his retirement he spent time with Carol and his family, creating many memories.
