An Othello man and woman were injured Tuesday afternoon in a Douglas County collision, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Roland L. Morris, 61, of East Wenatchee was driving his silver 2006 Ford Taurus just before 4:56 p.m. southbound on South Nile Avenue in East Wenatchee, coming to a stop at a stop sign. Kenneth L. Uptain, 88, of Othello, was driving his white 2019 Honda Odyssey westbound on state Route 28, near South Nile Street, while the Taurus failed to yield to westbound traffic and struck the Odyssey. The Taurus then struck a pole and came to rest in the westbound ditch. The Odyssey came to rest in the eastbound ditch.

Morris was taken to Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee for his injuries. He wore his seat belt. He also may be charged with vehicular assault. His vehicle was totaled.

Uptain and his passenger, Beverly Uptain, 86, of Othello, were taken to Central Washington Hospital for their injuries. Both wore seat belts, but their vehicle was totaled.

The cause of the collision was deemed failure to yield right of way, according to the WSP, and drugs and/or alcohol also was a factor.
