Memorial planned for deputy; sheriff’s office to be closed

A public memorial service for Grant County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Jon Melvin will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Cave B Estate Winery, 348 Silica Road NW in Quincy, according to a notification from the GCSO.

Melvin, 60, died Dec. 11, 2020, from COVID-19 complications. It’s thought he caught the virus while performing his duties as a deputy. He was with the GCSO for 35 years.

The GCSO administrative office at 35 C St. NW in Ephrata will be closed Thursday so staff can attend the memorial. It will reopen at 8 a.m. Friday.
