Lecture on earthquakes in eastern Washington planned
WENATCHEE — The Palouse Falls Chapter of the Ice Age Flood Institute will host a lecture by Megan Anderson Sept. 30, according to a release from the chapter’s president, Lloyd Stoess. Admission is free.
The event will take place at 7 p.m. at the Ritz Theater in Ritzville, 107 E. Main St., and is entitled “Earthquakes in Eastern Washington.” Two major earthquakes have already occurred on this side of the Cascades, according to the release. Anderson will discuss where, why and when they happened, as well as how to prepare for the next one.
Anderson is an earthquake geophysicist at the Washington Geological Survey, who studied subduction zones and earthquakes in South America for her Ph.D. and taught for 10 years at Colorado College in Colorado Springs. She now is back in the Pacific Northwest because it is a fascinating place where there is so much left to discover, the release said.
