Four local athletes get Athlete of the Week awards from WIAA

Each week, the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association and Gesa Credit Union recognize student-athletes for outstanding performances and contributions in their communities.

All students in good academic standing at their schools are eligible to receive the Athlete of the Week award. Selections are based on nominations, and students may win the award once during any given academic year.

Each winner receives a letter of recognition from the WIAA executive director, a certificate of achievement and a $25 DICK’S Sporting Goods gift card, courtesy of Gesa Credit Union.

Four local students were among a dozen recently recognized:

• Alondra Lozano, a senior on the Wahluke soccer team, was selected for Week 2. Lozano netted 15 goals in three games for the Wahluke soccer team. As a team captain, her leadership, hard work, and determination has helped motivate her teammates this season.

• Brock Clark, a junior on the Moses Lake football team, was selected for Week 3. Starting quarterback Brock Clark was 17-of-26 passing for 237 yards, six touchdowns, and zero interceptions in leading the Chiefs to a 56-7 league win over Eisenhower. He also posted three rushes for 18 yards and a touchdown for his seventh touchdown of the game.

• Chase Galbreath, a junior for Lind-Ritzville/Sprague football, was honored for Week 4. Chase Galbreath was 14 of 21 through the air and connected on three touchdowns, in the 27-0 win versus Chewelah. Additionally, he added three rushing touchdowns and kicked three extra points after touchdowns.

• Dane Isaak, a senior on the Almira/Coulee-Hartline football team, was selected for Week 5. Isaak helped the Warriors beat No. 1 ranked Odessa, snapping the Tigers’ 37-game win streak. The Warrior quarterback amassed 190 yards rushing on 19 carries, and scored three touchdowns. He also passed for 102 yards and two touchdowns, while chipping in with nine tackles from the outside linebacker position.
