Halloween activities abound this weekend

MATTAWA — Ghoulies and ghosties and long-leggedy beasties will be out this weekend as local municipalities and organizations provide events to celebrate Halloween and harvest.

The city of Mattawa, the Mattawa Community Medical Clinic and Columbia Basin Health Association will sponsor an evening of activities beginning at 4 p.m. Friday. Some are centered around the traditional Mexican holiday, the Day of the Dead.

The Mattawa Public Library at 101 Manson Lane will have an hour of activities and games from 4-5 p.m. A free screening of the animated film “Coco” will be presented at 4 p.m. in Hund Memorial Park at 101 Government Road.

Trunk-or-treating will be from 5-7 p.m. People who plan to hand out candy are encouraged to decorate the car trunk. Trunk decorations will be judged at 6 p.m.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints ward in Royal City will sponsor a trunk-or-treat at 5 p.m. Saturday at Jenks Brothers Cold Storage at 4421 Road 13.5 SW.

New Life Fellowship at 117 Camelia St. in Royal City will sponsor a trunk-or-treat Saturday, beginning at 5:30 p.m. and lasting until the candy runs out.

The Bethel Assembly of God at 915 S. First Ave. in Othello will have a “Superfest” from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the church. The schedule includes games and other activities, as well as candy.

The Othello Foursquare Church, 90 Venice Ave., will sponsor a “Harvest Fest” from 4-7 p.m. Sunday. There’s a trunk-or-treat scheduled, as well as games, a photo booth, bouncy house and food.

Families can go trunk-or-treating in the parking lot of the Desert Aire Shopping Center at 122 Frontier Way, from 4-7 p.m. Sunday. The event is sponsored by the Desert Aire Lions Club.
