EPHRATA — A free Webex class will provide an opportunity to learn how to compost yard and garden waste.

The class will be 6 p.m. Oct. 28. Participants will need a computer or a smart device to participate, as well as an email address, according to information from Grant County Solid Waste.

After attending the class, Grant County residents will be able to pick up a free compost bin at the Grant County Public Works Office. More directions on how to pick up the compost bin will be given during the class.

Composting is a beneficial way of turning yard and garden waste into a resource to help plants grow healthier and faster by keeping the soil loose and well drained. While compost is not a substitute for fertilizer, it does contain beneficial nutrients. Composting may also save money by reducing how much garbage is thrown away, stated the press release.

To sign up for the class, call Grant County Solid Waste at 509-754-6082, ext. 3508, on or before Oct. 27.

The class is sponsored by Grant County Solid Waste and the Washington State Department of Ecology Local Solid Waste Financial Assistance.
