| October 21, 2021 1:00 AM

Moses Lake High School hosted a cross-country meet Saturday at the Gorge Amphitheatre for several hundred middle and high school athletes.

Runners began near the stage, went up and around the open fields and finished with an epic 80-meter sprint uphill.

“Moses Lake teams showed true heart and grit over a difficult course,” Jodi O’Shea, MLHS assistant cross-country coach, wrote in an email.

Moses Lake varsity girls took first place in the 5,000-meter run. Junior Camryn Holterhoff led with a third-place finish of 21:06 in the field of 98 girls. Paige Perkins was 8th place (21:54); freshman Rianne Nelson took 14th (23:20); 15th was Marissa Bischoff (23:29) and Sylvie Gephardt finished in 22nd (23:59).

Other varsity girls: Katelynn Lustig (24:33), Ashlee Scheel (25:02), Mady Morigeau (29:46), and Jayden Nordstrom (30:11).

The Moses Lake varsity boys took third place in the 5,000-meter run, led by junior Ethan Labonte, with a third-place finish of 17:31 in a field of 99 runners. He was followed by his twin brother, Logan Labonte in 13th place (18:20). Sam Elliott took 14th (18:21); 23rd was Devon Taylor and freshman Angel Verduzco finished 29th (19:02).

Other varsity boys: Anthony Longoria (19:22), and Coleton Johnston (20:12).

The boys junior varsity team had 18 of the 71 entries and took second place in the 5,000-meter run.

Freshman Jonathan Roueche finished in second place with 19:18. Freshman Tristan Seibel was sixth place with 19:55; Ian Allred took eighth place with 20:10; Jamisen Stuart was 10th in 20:23 and Brodie Holland finished 11th in 20:31.

Other JV finishers: Miguel Mendoza (21:08), Jesse Humphreys (21:12), Noah Bingham (21:14), Jaciel Valdez (21:54), Micheal Gonzalez (22:22), Mitchell West (22:30), Emmet Rasmussen (22:34), Elliot Kincaid (22:41), Matthew Barnett (24:01), Elijah Legault (26:48), Avien Martinez (27:33), David Hernandez (27:52), and Maddox Farnsworth (28:15).

“Our young team is starting to come into peak form just in time for the district championship, which is to be held Oct. 28 in Wenatchee,” O’Shea wrote.

This will determine the teams and individuals continuing to the state cross-country meet in Pasco on Nov. 6.

Camryn Holterhoff and Paige Perkins “were really dialed in and wouldn’t be denied,” head coach Larry Dagnon, said in a statement. “Rianne Nelson and Marissa Bischoff had very good races, as well, and showed a lot of determination. Ethan LaBonte, Logan LaBonte, and Sam Elliott had great races on a very tough course. Those three boys haven’t peaked yet and are destined to put in some really fast times next week at District.”

Moses Lake competed at Eastmont in the last league meet Tuesday, where it placed fifth in both varsity girls and boys, and third in JV boys in the 5,000-meter runs.
