Moses Lake prepares $470,000 project at wastewater plant
Moses Lake officials have posted a request for bids on a project to update parts of the Central Operations Facility (COF), a part of the city’s wastewater system.
The COF, located at 1303 W. Lakeside Drive, will be the home of multiple changes coming early next year. The project is being called the Miscellaneous COF Upgrades Project.
Bid documents list 39 items of work relating to the project, including the installation of a new parking area, replacing fencing, repair or replacement of a sewer gate valve, as well as some concrete and utility work.
The bid posting states the project would require the removal of approximately 1,040 square yards of pavement and concrete, along with grading and paving to create a concrete retaining wall, a driveway and sidewalks, among other things. It also states relocation of an irrigation sprinkler controller and sewer bypass pumping and traffic control will be required to complete the project.
Mark Beaulieu, a design engineer for the city of Moses Lake, said there is also going to be the demolition of an old, unused building called the COF headworks structure. The space where the building is located will be used in the expansion of the parking area.
Beaulieu said the work would most likely not start until the spring of 2022 since most of the work is not done during winter months.
The city estimates the project will cost $470,000 and will be completed within 75 working days.
The bid for the project is open until Dec. 8 or until filled. Beaulieu said to his knowledge, city officials didn’t receive any bids on the project as of Wednesday.
According to the wastewater page on the city’s website, the local wastewater system provides wastewater collection, treatment and disposal for areas within city limits and the urban growth area boundary. Moses Lake’s wastewater system consists of two wastewater treatment plants, a network of tributaries, a collection of lift stations and pressurized mains, and a Central Operations Facility, according to the page.
