ROYAL CITY — Parking will be prohibited on the north side of Poplar Street Northeast under a new ordinance passed Oct. 5 by the Royal City City Council.

City finance director Shilo Christensen said no parking signs will be installed when they arrive. Like other industries, sign manufacturers have been affected by disruptions in supply chains, and as a result the shipping has been delayed.

Development of new housing along Poplar Street has led to increased traffic, and changes to Poplar Street itself.

The Reino Del Cielo Apartments are on the south side of Poplar Street, and single family houses, known as the Hargraves Development, are on the north side. Developers added sidewalks to the north side of Poplar Street as part of the Hargraves project. While the street is still wide enough for two cars to pass, the sidewalk effectively made the street narrower, Christensen said. As a result, city officials decided to eliminate parking along the curb on the north side.
