Two Soap Lake residents were injured and a 37-year-old unidentified person died Thursday night in a collision on Interstate 90 in Kittitas County, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Brayan A. Verduzco, 23, of Soap Lake, was driving a black 2009 Honda Civic eastbound on I-90 at milepost 126, west of Vantage, just before 10:13 p.m. The car tried to pass another vehicle, but rotated across a lane into the southbound shoulder due to wet road conditions and rainy weather, the WSP stated. The Honda’s rear fender struck the guardrail, then its driver’s side fender struck a rock wall before stopping perpendicular to the interstate, facing south and 20 feet from the road.

Verduzco and a passenger, Laura R. Sanchez Valtierra, 50, of Soap Lake, were taken to Kittitas Valley Hospital in Ellensburg for their injuries.

Another unidentified passenger died at the scene. The person’s identity wasn’t released because the family still needed to be notified by the Kittitas County Coroner.

All wore seat belts. The vehicle was totaled.

The WSP deemed the cause as speed too fast for conditions.
