Eugene (Gene) B. Butterly

July 11, 1939 –November 2, 2021

Our loving father Eugene (Gene) B. Butterly, 82, of Ephrata, Washington, passed away peacefully Nov. 2, 2021, surrounded by his family. Gene was born July 11, 1939, in New York City to Mildred and Eugene Butterly. Always an adventurer, he loved the outdoors including gardening, boating, traveling and camping with his family.

He is survived by his devoted wife Mary Jo Butterly; his nine children Gene Butterly (Donna), Dennis Butterly (Amy), Julie Stephenson (Dave), Maureen Black (John), Gretchen Craft (John), John Butterly (Lorie), Beth Martens (Roy), Joanie Butterly and Michael Butterly; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by Joan, his wife of 59 years, and his daughter Carolyn.

Gene was a faithful member of his church, St. Rose of Lima, and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. Many knew Gene for his love of the Catholic faith, which he studied throughout his life. He was also a strong advocate in the Right to Life movement. He loved his family, spending time with them, and encouraged a life of faith in each of them.

A Rosary will be said in his honor Wednesday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 323 D St. SW, Ephrata. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church with interment to follow at Ephrata Cemetery. A reception will follow at the St. Rose school gymnasium, 520 Nat Washington Way, Ephrata.
