Five Basin athletes finish in top 50 in state cross-country

The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association 2021 State Cross Country Tournament in Pasco during the weekend had more than two dozen athletes from Grant and Adams counties, and several placed in the top 50 of more than 100 in the state.

The athletes from the Grant and Adams counties who finished in the top 50 in the 3.1-mile race include:

Wahluke High School sophomore Angel Vazquez placed 21st in the Boys 1A category with a time of 17 minutes, 36.2 seconds.

For the 2A boys were sophomores Hayden and Hans Roberts of Ephrata High School. Hayden finished in 21st place with a time of 16 minutes, 57.5 seconds.Hans finished in 43rd place with a time of 17 minutes, 23.2 seconds.

2A girls included junior Alexa Laughlin of Ephrata High School and senior Jenifer Guerrero of Othello HIgh School. Alexa took 42nd place with a time of 21 minutes, 3.4 seconds. Jenifer took 49th place with a time of 21 minutes, 18.9 seconds.

In team scores, Wahluke High School girls placed 11th for 1A, Royal High School boys placed 16th as a team for 1A and Ephrata High School boys placed seventh as a team in the 2A category.
